Pool Lifeguard
The
National Pool Lifeguard Training Programme in Ireland was established
in 1992. The programme sets out a framework for training lifeguards
and certifying their Trainers and Assessors, with administrative and
management support, and technical expertise.
The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the cornerstone of the
Pool Lifeguard Training Programme. The Qualification in awarded in
two Modules.
(a) Foundation Module
(b) Site Specific Module
The
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
National Pool Lifeguard Foundation Module
The Foundation Module is delivered by qualified RLSS Trainers, who
have undergone specialist training in order to be able to conduct
Lifeguard courses. The module normally lasts 33 hours. Following the
training course, an independent Assessor assesses candidates' competence.
Pool Lifeguard Site Specific Module
Following
the generic training listed, candidates are expected to undergo 14
hours of Site Specific Training at the pool where they work or where
they attended their course. This training is co-ordinated by the Pool
Manager and is endorsed by The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management
(ISRM).
With the two Modules, the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
is fully compliant with the requirements listed in "Managing
Health and Safety in Swimming Pools". The Qualification is endorsed
by the world governing body for lifesaving, ILS, and is widely recognised
in England and abroad as far a field as America and Australia.
EMERGENCY
RESPONSE CERTIFICATE - POOL

is now available for hotels and leisure centres that have suitable
small pools. The course lasts 2 days and is suitable for smaller pools
seeking the White Flag award for leisure centres. |
