MOBILE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORMS (MEWP)

MEWP's are widely used in places of work in the place of ladders and tower scaffolds. Operators are asked to use them without any formal training and are not aware of the safety precautions required or the capabilities or limits of the unit.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify their responsibilities under current legislation
  • Travelling in operational mode
  • Conduct a safety check on the MEWP
  • Duties of the MEWP operator
  • Position a MEWP correctly and safely
  • Safety precautions of using a MEWP
  • Identify the SWL of the MEWP persons and materials
  • Daily checks and maintenance requirements
  • Use the MEWP correctly and safely Course Content
  • Barriers and signs required
  • Safety legislation applicable to the operation of MEWP's
  • Charging the battery
  • Basic types and specifications of MEWP's
  • Safe working at heights
  • Safe working loads
  • Emergency lowering procedure
  • Outriggers and stabilisers
  • Practical Assessment where applicable
  • Theoretical test
Method of training

The course will be where applicable a mixture of classroom theory and practicable demonstration. Participants are encouraged to ask questions throughout the course.
